The 2024 Ferris State/Auto-Owners Insurance Challenge came to a close on April 23rd with the final prize party celebrations. Dr. Brown, along with Samantha Worden from Auto-Owners Insurance, visited the winning Southeast Division classrooms in Lansing and Novi. Of course, there was more pizza and great conversation about the insurance challenge competition and the many career opportunities within the industry.
The day began in Lansing at the headquarters of Farm Bureau Insurance where we celebrated with the second-place team from Eaton RESA, and then we visited the first and third-place teams from Novi High School in the afternoon. So let’s wrap this up by meeting the top three finishers from the Southeast Division.
First Place: Mrs. Darcie Moss’s Business Professionals of America (BPA) students and their “StaySafe” insurance company from Novi High School.
Second Place: Dr. Greg Brown’s Insurance and Risk Management students and their “Gloated Egos” insurance company from Eaton RESA.
Third Place: Mrs. Darcie Moss’s Managerial Finance students and their “WildCat Insurance” company from Novi High School.
Finishing in fourth place, Lesnie Orsborn’s “Plan B” from Salem High School came within a whisker of overtaking “WildCat Insurance” in the final round. In fifth and sixth places respectively, Ms. Shannon Pulver’s “Mystery Inc Insurance” and “Guardians of the Finance Insurance” from Fraser High School also did well in the challenge. Congratulations to all of the Southeast Division insurance companies!
Dr. Brown is pleased to report that we have received great feedback and plenty of positive student engagement throughout the 2024 insurance challenge. Students seemed particularly enamored with the analytical and competitive nature of the challenge. They also enjoyed receiving the weekly results in the form of the market newsletter edited by the infamous and occasionally obtuse insurance journalist, “Mo Frenly.”
